This wooden toy comes from Finland, and came out just a couple of years ago. However the basic idea has been around for 20 to 30 years. Some versions have been made in plastic, although this wooden version is more traditional.
There is a wooden cube with a cylindrical hole drilled into it, and a wooden cylinder that fits loosely into the hole.
You present it as a challenge to someone - get the central cylinder out of the hole without touching the toy at all.
It seems impossible... until you see it done. You blow sharply over the top of the cylinder, which pops smartly up into the air. We did think it was osmething to do with the Bernoulli effect, but now we suspect that the mechanism is that of an air piston.
Normally, items in the toy collection are not for sale. However because of the number of requests we have received, we have managed to get hold of some Raketti, which you will find in the Grand Illusions Toy Shop.
