Mova Globe

The Mova Globe is a 4.5 inch globe of the world that rotates, powered simply by ambient light. Sitting on an acrylic base, this elegant globe has no wires or batteries. Instead there is an internal solar panel which generates enough power from normal room lighting to keep the globe turning as long as there is light.

When the first Mova Globes came out, they were bigger, and a lot more expensive! Now this range of smaller globes has come out at a much more reasonable price.

The globe consists of an outer clear plastic sphere that does NOT rotate, and floating just inside is the rotating globe. The rotating globe is floating in fluid, which gives it a very smooth movement.

Apparently the map design at the top of the globe allows enough light through to power the solar panel, although you cannot see inside the globe. Inside the globe there is a bar magnet which aligns with the earth's magnetic field, and the motor works against this magnet in order to rotate the globe.
