This cute little automaton of a dog is something of a mystery. It is in a case of toys dated 1991, but it would appear not to have come with a box or any other documentation. So we don't know where it came from, or who made it.
However Tim spent quite a lot of time visiting East Anglia at that time, and there are a number of people based there who create all sorts of automata, so that is probably where it came from originally.
Turning the handle makes the wooden axle revolve, and also the two wooden cams. One is very eccentric, and transmits the up and down motion to the dog's mouth; the other transmits a rotary motion to the tail.
