Looks like a pen, writes like a pencil  I just purchased this point, and I am already impressed. The black pen that I bought looks very professional and elegant, and feels very solid. It's surprisingly heavy, but comfortable to use. The mark it leaves looks like what a pencil would leave, and it writes with some extra friction. You'll have to press hard to write darkly, but it looks good with normal pressure. Overall a very cool pen (pencil?), I would highly recommend it to anyone. One thing: There's no cap. So either keep it in the case, or find another one that fits.   Chris Ayala

Fine pen, no more ballpoint problems  I live mostly on a sailing-boat and find this Beta-Pen very practical. No more clutter of ballpoints, or pencils. The Beta-Pen lasts a life-time. Another advantage is that the Beta-Pen writes under all weather conditions. That's quite handy since things can get damp and wet on a sailing-boat... Thanks to the Grand Illusions Toy Shop I now use this pen a lot. I addition to the Beta Pen I've also purchased the smaller Metal-Pen, and use that when I'm out on the road. Beta Pen
Over the last couple of years, the Metal Pocket Pen that we sell has been incredibly popular. See http://www.grand-illusions.com/acatalog/Metal_Pen.html Now the designer has come up with the Beta Pen - a full length version of the Metal Pen.

The solid metal 'nib' consists of a metal alloy, that leaves a mark on most types of paper. If you use the sort of paper typically used in printers and photocopiers, the pen leaves a mark that looks as if it was made by a pencil. However the line will not smudge, and cannot easily be rubbed out. This has a number of advantages, especially if you are left handed!

Since there is no ink, there is nothing to dry out, so the pen will work just as well in 25 years time as it does today.

I would guess that in time the nib would begin to wear down, as you are leaving a small amount of metal on the page. However this has got to be a much slower process than with a pencil, which wears down pretty quickly. The designer tells us that if the point becomes slightly blunt, you can 'sharpen' it again using sand paper.

The metal alloy nib is relatively soft, so it is advisable not to drop the pen onto a hard surface. Otherwise you may snap the nib off.

Available in a choice of 3 colours, black, silver or wood. The silver and black versions are made of aluminium.
